Putting carbon in its place
Let’s be clear, carbon isn’t the problem. We need carbon, where it’s doing good: in trees, in the soil and even in the atmosphere. The problem is having the right amount of carbon in the right places - it’s all a question of balance.
We are experts in restoring that balance.
Identifying opportunities
We can measure your carbon footprint with incredible accuracy, helping you to understand your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
Our proprietary platform, ECO-MaP, makes the process quick and easy. Whether you're a multinational corporation, or a local micro-business, our systems and processes provide an efficient way to understand the effect your business is having on the planet.
Your roadmap to net zero
We provide strategic services to help you develop the most appropriate carbon strategy for your organisation.
Emissions avoidance and reduction should be addressed first, with offsetting being a step in mitigating unavoidable emissions.
Balancing risk with opportunity, we'll find the right mix of commercial and climate outcomes, tailored to your needs.
Offsetting is an important part of your climate plan.
Our group of companies develop a range of Australian carbon reduction projects, allowing us to access high quality, excellent value carbon offsets in any quantity. We work with you to help you choose an offset project that aligns with your company’s needs, values and budget.
To balance this for our clients, we also offer a whole-of-market service for third party offsets, ranging from high-integrity ACCUs (Australian Carbon Credit Units) to more affordable international VCU (Verified Carbon Units) products.
What is carbon offsetting?
Carbon offsetting is the process of compensating for CO2 emissions arising from human activity, by making equivalent reductions of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is one of the things organisations can do to make up for some of the harm caused to the planet by conducting business.
We advocate avoiding emmission generation where possible, reducing it where practical, and mitigating (offsetting) the balance.
Orgnaisations can offset most carbon emitting activities, including:
Energy and fuel
Freight and logistics
Company premises
Conferences and events
Fleet or individual vehicles
Flights and other travel
Essential tenets of carbon credits
Carbon initiatives must demonstrate that the greenhouse gas reductions or carbon capture achieved by the project are exclusive to its intervention, exceeding what would naturally occur without it.
Robust scientific methods must be employed to precisely calculate the project’s contribution to reducing emissions, ensuring the credibility of the carbon credit.
An external third party must audit the claimed emissions reductions or carbon removals, guaranteeing the project’s integrity and adherence to established standards.
Projects must secure enduring or permanent solutions for carbon sequestration or emissions abatement, implementing safeguards against any reversal of benefits.
Projects need to proactively address and reduce any inadvertent negative impacts that may lead to increased emissions outside the project boundary.
Beyond cutting emissions, projects should foster additional environmental and social advantages, such as improving sustainable development, enhancing community welfare, conserving ecosystems, and strengthening local economies.
Projects are expected to practice open communication and involve all stakeholders, including local populations and indigenous communities. This ensures projects are well-aligned with regional needs and positively contribute to broader sustainability goals.
Cool Planet has been a trusted partner on our sustainability journey for over 15 years. Their expertise and guidance have been crucial in maintaining carbon neutrality and achieving significant milestones, including becoming Australia’s first net zero plastics factory. Their support in carbon management and sustainability has been invaluable to our success.
